Mallika Old Town
A hidden gem in deepest Kanchanaburi, Mallika Old Town creates a pretty good enjoyable replica of a living history town during the early 1900s period.
You can rent Thai costumes (Chud Thai) before going into the town through an impressive fortified gatehouse, and you’ll see all the staff and workers are wearing the same era costumes too!
The Experience
You can explore the old indoor market where dozens of shops are making and selling traditional Thai food, drinks, and medicines, all with that Olde World feel.
To buy something you have to change modern Thai money for ancient style satang coins, which have holes in the centre and are held together with string loops.
If you’ve got enough energy in the heat you can climb the rickety spiral staircase to the top of the watchtower, which gives great views of Mallika Old Town and the surrounding countryside.
There are some nice gardens, and a couple of relaxing eateries with modern food in a rustic setting.
Try Your hand At Old Skills
There are numerous traditional Thai buildings and stunning gardens to explore, plus a center where you can try your hand at many ancient skills such as rice milling. They also have a huge and very beautiful wooden Thai style house, a floating market, and other fun sights.
It’s well worth visiting, there’s no rush to see everything, and you could combine a few relaxing hours here with another standout but little known attraction not too far away, as you will see in the video below.
Mallika Old Town is a bit remote, and that’s actually a good thing from the point of it’s atmosphere, and feeling of relaxation. However, there are organised tours available from Kanchanaburi City.

I have never heard of this place but it looks to be a fun place to take the kids, they love dressing up.
