Wat Nong Chap Tao

Wat Nong Chap Tao

Wat Nong Chap Tao (also spelled Wat Nong Jab Tao), is in Na Jomtien subdistrict of Sattahip District, Chonburi Province, not far from Pattaya.

The temple is known for its striking white architecture and the mythological Naga (serpent) themes, but rarely visited by foreign  tourists despite being close to a major tourist site.

Built in 1937, this ancient temple has gained popularity for its serene atmosphere and unique features which are great for selfies, Instagram, or just plain memories, and include:

Ubosot and Naga serpents

  • The Naga Bridge and Pond: The entrance to the main white ordination hall (ubosot) is marked by a bridge over a pond, flanked by two large, intricately detailed Naga statues. These mythical serpents act as guardians and are a major highlight for visitors.

  • The Large Standing Buddha: This pearl-white Buddha statue stands majestically in front of the chapel. It is often referred to as Luang Pho Mongkhon Chok.

  • Giant Turtle: the temple’s most famous attraction is a massive statue of a turtle. It is a local tradition for visitors to crawl under the turtle’s belly for good luck, health, and to dispel misfortune.

The temple is near better known attractions like Khao Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain) and the Silverlake Vineyard, but is well worth visiting.

Don’t forget that it is a place of worship so please behave and dress accordingly.

How To Get There:

Google’s Plus Code address is QWRH+HG8, Na Chom Tian, Sattahip District, Chonburi. It’s actually fairly near to the popular Khao Chi Cha mentioned above, so it’s easy to find and something a little different.
